Anthony “Tony” Victor Polovich, aged 96, passed away Monday, January 28, 2019 in Gulfport, MS.
Tony was born and raised on Point Cadet in Biloxi before settling in D’Iberville. He was a member of the US Coast Guard from 1942-1945 when he was honorably discharged. He also worked various jobs during his lifetime but is best known as the owner/operator of Eddie’s Hardware and Appliances, a staple in Biloxi on Division Street for almost 30 years before he retired. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D’Iberville, and was a member of the Slavonian Lodge in Biloxi. He is known for his avid love of fishing, raising chickens, D’Iberville football, the Atlanta Braves and the New Orleans Saints.
Mr. Polovich is preceded in death by his loving wife, Peggy Migues Polovich. They were married for 72 years at the time of her death. Also preceding his death were his parents, Vincent J. Polovich and Lucy Misko Polovich; siblings, Lucille Polovich, Marie Chiovari, Matre Polovich and Vincent Polovich; daughters, Renell Polovich Jones and Patricia Polovich Barlow; son, Anthony Victor Polovich, Jr.; and son-in-law, Charles Barlow.
He is survived by his three sons, David Polovich, Chris Polovich and Chucky Polovich; sister, Lucretia Clement; son-in-law, Roy Jones, Jr.; five grandchildren, Scott Jones (DiAnne), Billy Jones, Rusty Barlow, Shelley Knox (Bill) and Dustin Polovich; and five great-grandchildren, Greg Jones, Satchel Barlow, Spencer Barlow, Jackson Knox and Lily Knox.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 10:00 am. Friends may visit from 9:00 am until Mass time. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi. Friends may also visit at a reception following interment honoring Mr. Polovich from 12-2 at the Biloxi Slavonian Lodge, Maple St., Biloxi. Howard Ave. Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
