Armond Mitchell "Mickey" Cannette

Armond Mitchell “Mickey” Cannette, age 77, passed away on Monday, September 28th, 2020 with his loving daughters by his side. Mickey was a Biloxi native, born in 1943. He moved north to Maryland to raise his family and later returned to Gulfport where he lived until his passing. He was an avid fisherman. Mickey loved being on the water; crabbing, fishing, or just relaxing with his many friends. He was always game for a good time; Mardi Gras parades, Irish festivals or luaus. He played guitar and harmonica, was an artisan welder, a masterful storyteller, and was always, always ready to laugh. Mickey is preceded in death by his parents, Armond Joseph Cannette and Mary Dalphia Mullen, his sister Starr Lyn Cannette, oldest child Link Cannette, and dear friend Kelly Hayes. Mickey is survived by his daughter Robin Cannette Slusher, her husband Jeff, and their 4 children Caitie, Olivia, Ethan and Dylan; daughter Cheryl Cannette; his former spouse, the mother of his children and life-long friend Mary Cannette; brothers David, Shannon, and Larry Cannette, sister Wanda Roberts, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and his constant companion for the last 15 years, his dog Shamus. Mickey’s Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Mary Catholic Church on October 3, 2020 at 11 am, followed by a reception in the church hall. There will also be a Celebration of Life held in Maryland on a date TBD. Part of Mickey’s ashes will be laid to rest at Groue Cemetery in the Saint Martin community of Biloxi, Mississippi, and the rest will be scattered over his mountain home in Maryland.
