Arthur M. Overstreet, 86, of Gulfport, died Tuesday, March 5, 2019, in Gulfport. Mr. Overstreet was born in Wayne County, MS, and had been a resident of the coast for 64 years. He was a member of the Saucier Holiness Church. Mr. Overstreet helped countless ministries and people in need. His greatest legacy was being a spiritual leader who summarized his faith by saying he REALLY loved the Lord. He was the retired owner of Art’s Automotive Machine Shop in Gulfport. Mr. Overstreet was a master engine builder whose engines dominated dirt tracks and drag strips in MS, LA, AL, TX, and TN. He sponsored over 100 race cars from 1968-2004. Mr. Overstreet was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Field Overstreet and Samantha Justina Pryor Overstreet, a grandson Phillip Lowery, sisters Jane Dearman and Myrtis Dean, and brothers Burton, Preston, Braze, Cecil, Horace, and Norvell. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Idell B. Overstreet, his daughter Audrey Jane Lowery (James) of Saucier; three sons James M. Overstreet (Virginia) of Gulfport, Paul G. Overstreet of Gulfport and Steven W. Overstreet (April) of Saucier; sisters Adele S. Bloss of Gulfport and Mrytle L. Teel of Albany, GA.; six grandchildren, Amanda Lowery, Rachel Samantha Overstreet, Stephen Feagins, T.J. Benefield, Maigan Overstreet, and Eli Overstreet; and two great granddaughters, Sarah Lowery Cooley and Savannah Bosarge. Visitation will be Friday, March 8, 2019, at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, O’Neal Road, Gulfport, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday, March 9, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Another visitation will be held Saturday, March 9, from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. with a service at 3:00 p.m. and reception to follow at the Strengthford Congregational Holiness Church in Wayne County, MS. The family prefers memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Texas Children’s Hospital, 6621 Fannin Street, Houston, TX 77030.
