Augustus Lamont “Stan” Stanton, Sr. was called to Heaven on December 3, 2018 after losing his battle with dementia and Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 87.
His birth was celebrated by his mother, Velma Taranto Stanton, on October 25, 1931 without his father who was taken from this world prior to his birth by a tragic automobile accident. During his lifetime, he was honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving in the Korean War; was a prominent gulf coast businessman and entrepreneur for 30 years as the founder of Stan’s Men’s Wear, which he built into a household name for men’s formal wear; was involved with the Boy Scouts with his children; the Lion’s Club; and was a member of the St. Alphonsus congregation.
Mr. Stanton is survived by his loving wife, Nell Crawford Stanton; sons, Augustus Lamont Stanton, Jr. and Joseph Scott Stanton; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 7, 2018 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
