Aurelia Lechner LeBatard

Aurelia Lechner LeBatard, 90, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018. Aurelia was born September 6th 1928, in Biloxi, along with her twin sister, Audrey, to Henry and Maude (Baker) Lechner. Aurelia left this world with a fighting spirit, with the same kind of toughness that she brought to any battle she entered in life. She was tenacious and to all who knew her, know she never gave up. But this was her final battle and she knew it was time to surrender to God. Aurelia graduated from Biloxi High School with the Class of 1947. She attended Perkinston Junior College and received an Associate Degree in Nursing and later obtained a B.S. in Nursing from William Carey College in Hattiesburg. Aurelia retired in 1989, from the Biloxi VA Medical Center where she spent most of that serving as head nurse on the respiratory care ward. She loved caring for others especially the veterans. She loved to laugh and to make others laugh with her sarcasms and funny sayings. She said that if you ever miss her in a crowd just follow the laughter and she would be there. She loved life and “told it like it was” and said about herself “what you see is what you get”. Her family was the heart and soul of her life. She absolutely adored her grandchildren, Misty and Beau, and was absolutely already experiencing a touch of heaven with the birth of her great granddaughter, Amelia. She is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Charles (Manny) LeBatard, Jr. who just recently passed away in July of this year. May they both rest in peace together. Also preceding her in death, her parents Henry and Maude Lechner; sister Margaret Lechner Parker; brother Alton Lechner and nephew Bill Batia. She is survived by her only child Michael (Susan) LeBatard, grandchildren Misty (Sean) Hellman, Beau (Amanda) LeBatard, and great granddaughter Amelia Hellman. She also leaves her twin sister Audrey Lechner Batia, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a very special and dear friend Margaret Scott. The family would like to especially thank Dr. John Douglas and Dr. Paul Mullen for the many years of kind and compassionate care they gave Aurelia. They would also like to express gratitude to Dr. Jennifer Rippon for her compassionate care of Aurelia in her last hours of life, it is greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to the Our Lady of Fatima St. Vincent de Paul, P. O. Box 4098, Biloxi, MS 39531. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. Friends may visit from 10:00 A.M. until mass time.
