Calvin Woodrow Entrekin

Calvin Woodrow Entrekin, 91, passed away on December 25, 2018, in Collins MS. Calvin was born on December 28, 1926, in Vancleave, MS to William Lonnie and Viola Entrekin. He grew up in Vancleave and Ocean Springs and attended the schools there. He joined the Navy at the age of 16 and was in 13 invasions in the Pacific on the USS Pennsylvania battleship. He married Pauline Louise Howard on December 21, 1956 and they were happily married for 55 years. Calvin was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Ocean Springs on Porter Ave. for decades. He went to watch making school and had his own watch repair business. Calvin enjoyed saltwater fishing, shrimping, catching oysters, and mullet. He retired from civil service as a QAE food service inspector. After he retired he spent his time fishing, gardening, and maintaining his home. Calvin was a Jack of all trades. He tackled practically every job himself with little help. He built three houses, one for his mother, and the other two for his own family. He survived being hit by a car while pumping gas as a gas station attendant, although he was not expected to live. He was loved by many people because of his big heart and gentle nature. He learned how to cook while he was employed by the civil service in the dining halls at Keesler. He was a terrific cook and passed on some of his secrets to his family. He was a wonderful father and grandfather who was always there if you needed him in hard times. He will be deeply missed by many people who love him. Calvin is preceded in death by his parents mentioned above; brothers; William Albert Daniel Entrekin, Billie Lewis Entrekin, Samuel Rowdy Entrekin, Dennis Oliver Entrekin, William Lonnie Entrekin Jr.; and sisters, Ella Viola Entrekin, and Mattie Louise Entrekin; his sons Carlos, Michael, and Bruce. Calvin is survived by his daughters Barbara Stanley, and Cheryl Wheeler of Vancleave, and son Franklin Dudley Entrekin of Ocean Springs. Funeral Services will be on Sunday December 30, 2018 at 2:00 pm. at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Porter Avenue. Friends may visit from 1:00 until service time. Interment will follow in D’Iberville Memorial Park.
