Carolyn Marie Head Broussard

An adored and charismatic wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Carolyn Marie Head Broussard “Ne Ne”, of Biloxi, Mississippi, 76, made her lively grand entrance to meet our Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 4, 2018. She was born on August 6, 1941, in Memphis, Tennessee. Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Franklin Head, Jr. and Norma Quave Head; her first husband Orrel “Bootsie” Brumbaugh; her son, Tommy Johnson; and her father-in-law, Edward June Broussard. Carolyn is survived by her loving and patient husband of 32 years, Frank John Broussard; her four children, Norma Brumbaugh Franks (Nickie, Sr.), Vance “Bubba” Brumbaugh (Kim), Mitchell Herrington (Katharine Denning); and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Johnson. She leaves behind eight precious grandchildren, Carolyn “Nicole” Eaton (Earl, Jr.), Nickie Franks, Jr. (Lacey), April Denning, T.J. Faeser, Jacob Myers, and Katilyn, Ty, and BreAnn Johnson; and four great-grandchildren, Hailey Eaton, Nickie, III and Joseph Franks, and Asher Faeser. Carolyn is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Beverly Head Callegari and Terral, Sr.; her mother-in-law, Una Sophie Broussard; her brothers-in-law, Matthew "Buddy" Brumbaugh, Edward “Zizzy,” Jock, Jody, Neil, Keith, and Scott “Jamie” Broussard; and her sisters-in-law, Susan, Denise, and Una; her special aunt, Rita Pelaez; her goddaughter, Mary Lee Gollott Williams, and a special family friend, Joan Bosarge Eaton. Carolyn attended St. Theresa School and Sacred Heart Academy and graduated from surgical tech school in Jackson County. She took great pride in caring for others for many years when she worked in the surgery department at Ocean Springs Hospital, the labor and delivery department at Howard Memorial Hospital, and at Gulf Coast Community Hospital. Later, she ran the physical therapy department at the Naval Home for ten years and received many awards for her outstanding care of her patients. Her patients loved her and her compassionate heart. Working in the medical field came naturally to Carolyn as she followed in her mother’s footsteps caring for people. She was a natural healer and so very passionate about the medical field and caring for others. After her retirement from the Naval Home, Carolyn and her husband, Frankie, traveled on many adventures together. With Carolyn, though, life was always one big adventure. In her free time, she enjoyed working in her yard, reading, and completing word puzzles. She enjoyed gambling at the casinos (the boats as she called them); she had a lucky streak and always generously shared her winnings with family. Carolyn enjoyed her trips to the beauty shop with her sister, Bevy. They were always there for each other. Wheel of Fortune was her favorite show, and her family knew that they better NOT call her between 6:30 and 7:00 unless it was an emergency. No one wanted to interrupt her Wheel of Fortune time. Carolyn enjoyed her Miller Lites and Coronas and was always the life of any party. Her family will always happily remember and miss her grand entrances with her song and “Ne Ne dance.” Her presence and laughter energized any room. Carolyn had a generous spirit. She extended her generosity to many organizations and charities throughout the years. She volunteered many hours with the Red Cross helping with blood drives. Carolyn strongly supported the Biloxi Police Department and was recently honored with a certificate of recognition for her support from the Biloxi Police Department. She consistently donated to many charities, including St. Jude’s, the Humane Society of South Mississippi, and to several organizations for the blind, diabetic, and veterans. Carolyn had a special place in her heart for her daughter’s dear friend Diane Garriga Griggs. Carolyn loved the brownies that Diane baked when she came over for sleepovers. She stayed up late through the night laughing like a teenager and hanging out with her daughter and Diane. Diane so loved her, too. Carolyn loved and adored her Mississippi and Louisiana grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished her time babysitting Hailey, Nickie, and Joseph. Keeping up with three active great-grandchildren was no rival for her young, untamed spirit. They all have wild and crazy Ne Ne stories to share with generations to come. They will always remember and cherish their Ne Ne adventures. Carolyn passionately loved animals. Through the years she fed many strays. She loved her dogs, Sampson, Goliath, and Bo; and her cats, Patches, Shami, E.T., and ChiChi. Carolyn suffered many great tragedies in her life, tragedies that would have broken many. Her strong faith in God and unbreakable spirit made her the survivor that she was. Carolyn had a great run for 76 years, and she unapologetically lived life to the fullest on her own terms. This wild and crazy, larger than life icon will be greatly missed and always remembered by her family and friends. A memorial mass will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church on Monday, January 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 at St. Michael. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude’s or the Humane Society of South Mississippi. Larger than life…the life of the party…generous…feisty…compassionate…energetic…wild and crazy…the rock of her family. This was Carolyn “Ne Ne” Broussard.
