Catherine Christine Roberts

Catherine Christine Roberts, age 96, formally of Vancleave, gained her angel wings on August 28, 2020. She has resided in Niceville, FL since 2004 with her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Kurt Eichorst. She was born on December 17, 1923 in Macon, MS to James and Maude Rogers. She leaves this earth to join her husband, Rupert Roberts (2001), her son-in-law Kurt Eichorst (2019), her parents, her twin brother, and her sister. She was a Methodist by faith her entire life and attended the Vancleave Methodist Church for 60 years until moving to Niceville, then she joined the Crosspoint Methodist Church. Catherine leaves behind her 2 daughters, Janice Eichorst of Niceville, Gloria Roberts of Ocean Springs, MS and a son, Glenn Roberts (Pat) of Vancleave, MS, 3 grandchildren, (Stephanie, Christopher, and Hilary) and 3 great-grandchildren. She also leaves 2 nieces and a sister-in-law, Desiree (Roberts) Sherrer. Catherine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, an awesome cook and took great joy in preparing meals for her family and friends. She had a kind and gentle spirit. She was generous with her time taking care of the sick and homebound for years. She cared for her mother-in-law (Bertha Roberts) until her death and then her own mother till her death at 103. She always put others first. Raising 3 children and being involved in their school activities was an endless job. She worked hard during the spring and summer months tending the family’s big garden. She loved her flowers and had many varieties in the yard or porch. Catherine was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and held several positions making friends along the coast during that time. She also belonged to the Vancleave Homemakers Club for over 50 years. She was proud of her 50 year pins from both groups. The homemakers club provided more friendships and ways to serve the community. She volunteered for many activities at her church. She worked the Election polls and was a long-time blood donor. She belonged to the Singing River Mall Walkers Club and earned patches for walking thousands of miles. Catherine was a talented seamstress and enjoyed many kinds of crafts and handiwork. She ministered to the sick and shut ins, often driving them to doctors, bringing food, helping in any way she could, and sharing bounty from the garden and flowers from her garden. In Niceville Catherine made many new friends and stayed active. She attended church regularly, enjoyed her Sunday School class, and was welcomed into a weekly Bible study group. Her loss of hearing became a big problem in later years, but she was very fortunate to have caring friends. She enjoyed her trips to pick strawberries and loved to go blueberry picking each year. She enjoyed her time with the ladies at Faithfully Fit who made her feel so special. They laughed and surrounded her with love, friendship and lots of laughs. Being the oldest in the class brought much confidence, friendship and even a little exercise. She walked every day for many years and enjoyed being outdoors or watching activities in the yard from her recliner or the back porch. She watched the birds, squirrels, rabbits and butterflies or just the beautiful blue sky and clouds in which she found peace and quiet. She would read the daily paper every day and only recently gave up reading a book or two a week. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the Vancleave Methodist Church, 13620 Hwy 57, P.O. Box 5141, Vancleave, MS 39565 in memory of Catherine Roberts.
