Charles Bardong, born May 31, 1943, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 22, 2018 surrounded by his family.
Charles’ survivors include his daughters, Darryl O’Donnell and Tracey Bardong (Robert)Schatzman; and his grandchildren, Shane and Dylan O’Donnell.
Charles led an exciting and adventurous life along with his wife Ann Britt who predeceased him. He was the Director of the Insurance Frauds Bureau for the New York State Insurance Department. Appointed to the position by Governor Pataki in 2002, he was instrumental in leading the Frauds Bureau to post record-breaking results. Charles also held the positions of Chief Investigator for the Moreland Act Commission on New York City Schools and Deputy Chief of the New York State Inspector General’s office. Charles Bardong began his law enforcement career as an officer with the New York City Police Department where he served for 22 years, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. In addition to his public service positions, Bardong founded and managed a private investigation and security firm. Charles was personal security and bodyguard of Baron Heinrich Von Thyssen.
He will be sorely missed by family and many friends. He was always the life of the party with his great stories and jokes.
Private services will be held. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home was honored to serve his family.
