Charles Parker Hewes

Charles Parker Hewes, a lifelong resident of Gulfport, Mississippi, left this world on May 21, 2019 at the age of 19. Parker is survived by his parents Charlie and Dane Hewes; his sister Maridane Hewes and her boyfriend, Kadin Snow; his paternal grandparents Billy Hewes Jr. and Sarah Hewes; his uncles Billy Hewes, Michael Hewes and Ron Kaufman; aunts Paula Hewes, Kay Hewes, and Deeta Ellzey Kaufman; cousins Katie Hewes Hood, John Payton Hood, Sarah Margaret Hewes, Gardner Hewes, Sam Hewes, Holden Hewes, Jack Hewes, Rush Hewes, Tanya Hanner, Ed Hanner, Derek Rose, Beth Rose, Ella and Anna Rose, Noah Barrett, and Mackenzie Barrett. He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents Doris Burrow and Parker Burrow. Parker was born on February 26, 2000, in Biloxi, Mississippi. He attended St. James Elementary School and graduated from Christian Collegiate Academy in Gulfport, in May 2018. As the starting linebacker for the CCA football team during his junior and senior years, Parker led the team to the State playoffs in Jackson. Parker enlisted in the Mississippi Army National Guard on May 6, 2017, and attended Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in the summers of 2017 and 2018. After completing his training and earning the title of Combat Engineer, Parker was soon deployed to Kuwait for a five-month tour from November 2018 to March 2019. While in the service, Parker received the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Armed Forces Service Medal. Parker was a friend to all he met and had a heart of gold. He was the life of the party, a formidable athlete and a first class soldier. He had a pioneer spirit and lived for the outdoors. He was a master trapper and hunter, and was most at home with a rod and reel in hand fishing the islands at Chandeleur. Specks and Reds feared him, sharks avoided him, and other fishermen wanted to be like him. Parker had his own unique style. He went to the beach in cowboy boots, he had a favorite hat, and he loved to go mudding and build bonfires. Parker was incredibly strong, and he used his strength as a shield and not a weapon. He was incredibly loyal, he always had your back, and he had a longstanding reputation for looking out for the little guy. Parker was a terrific son, brother, cousin, nephew, friend, patriot, and of great importance, Parker was a Christian. He will be missed, but we will see him again in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 25, at 10:30 am at St. John’s Catholic Church in Gulfport. Visitation will take place from 8:30-10:30 am with a mass to follow. Parker will be interred at the Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, Mississippi with honors by the U.S. Army. Contributions may be made in Parker’s name to the Parker Hewes Christian Collegiate Academy Scholarship Fund, 12200 Dedeaux Rd, Gulfport, MS 39503.
