Charles Thomas "Manny" LeBatard, Jr.

On Friday, July 27, 2018, a golden heart stopped beating after 92 years of life. Charles Thomas LeBatard, Jr., known as “Manny” to family and friends, was born in Biloxi on March 19, 1926 to Charles and Florence (Lamey) LeBatard. Manny was a humble man, who loved his God, family and country. He was a World War II veteran who served in the European Theater under General George Patton, fighting in three major battles earning a Bronze Star for Valor. Manny loved the water and the islands and would sail his cat boat “Surprise” in races, even winning first place once. Manny was a master carpenter and boat builder. He had a natural talent for music and played the piano, organ, guitar and accordion. In later life, he enjoyed going to McElroy’s to eat breakfast with family and friends. Manny did not understand the word “no” as it was not in his vocabulary. He was a humble man with a kind heart. Manny was dearly loved in life and will be dearly loved in death. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Florence LeBatard. Manny is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Aurelia; his son, Michael (Susan) LeBatard; his grandchildren, Misty (Sean) Hellman and Beau (Amanda) LeBatard; his great-granddaughter, Amelia Hellman, the apple of his eye; his sister-in-law, Audrey Batia; many nieces and nephews; and his special friends, Dan and Margaret Scott and Mike and George Ann Sincavage. The family would like to thank the Sadd Hospice care team and Salus Home Care for the professional and gentle care given to Manny over the last six weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to the Our Lady of Fatima St. Vincent de Paul, P.O. Box 4098, Biloxi, MS 39531. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 12:00 pm. Friends may visit from 10:00 am until mass time. Entombment will follow at Biloxi City Cemetery. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
