Deane Chrestman Gaines

Deane Chrestman Gaines, age 71, of Gulfport, MS passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018. Deane was born in Helena, Arkansas on August 4, 1947 to Deane Henson Chrestman and Dr. Reuben Leonard Chrestman, Jr. She graduated with honors in 1968 from The University of Mississippi where she was a member of the Tau Chapter of Chi Omega sorority. After graduation, she married her college sweetheart, Edward R. Gaines, and they moved to Gulfport, MS becoming actively involved in their community. As a member of St. Peter’s-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Gulfport, Deane taught Sunday School for many years. She held leadership roles in countless community organizations including the Gulfport Junior Auxiliary, the Westminster Mothers’ Club, The Merry Maskers Carnival Organization, The Revelers Carnival Organization, The Four Seasons Garden Club, The Bayou View Garden Club, The Gulfport/Long Beach Chi Omega Alumni Association, The Gulfport Yacht Club Auxiliary, and The Culture Club. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hon. Edward R. Gaines; her parents; her sister, Cynthia Ann Dunavant; and niece, Allison Chrestman Alexander. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Gaines Lampkin; grandson, Jonathan Traylor Lampkin, Jr.; granddaughter, Sarah Langston Lampkin; son-in-law, Dr. Jonathan Traylor Lampkin all of Loveland, OH; her brother, Dr. Reuben Chrestman (Mary Ann) of Metairie, LA; niece, Mary Beth Chrestman of New Orleans, LA; nephews Dr. David Dunavant of Collierville, TN, Michael Dunavant of Memphis, TN, and Andrew Chrestman of New Orleans, LA. The family prefers Memorials be made to Loveland United Methodist Church, 10975 South Lebanon Road, Loveland, OH 45140 in support of the music program where her grandchildren and daughter are very involved. It was one of her biggest joys to see the love of music being passed down from generation to generation. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018 from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, in Gulfport, MS. A graveside service will immediately follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
