Della Mae Owen Rewis

Della Mae Owen Rewis, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, in Gulfport, MS. Mrs. Rewis was born in El Paso, Texas, raised in Phoenix, Arizona, and was a resident of the MS Gulf Coast for the last 43 years. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Mrs. Rewis was the wife of a former Air Force Officer and as such had the opportunity to travel the world with her husband and children. She possessed a gentle heart and generous spirit illustrated through her passion for Meals On Wheels, contribution to the St. Joseph’s Indian School, and care of forlorn animals to which she could never turn a cold shoulder. When able to find time for herself, she enjoyed oil painting, gardening, and watching western classic movies which she learned to appreciate with her husband. Mrs. Rewis was preceded in death by her parents, Newell and Mildred Owen, and her husband of 49 years, Lt. Col. John Joseph Rewis. She is survived by her three sons, Michael J. and wife Virginia (Usey) of Gulfport, Mitchell J. and wife Carol (David) of Saucier, Mark O. and wife Cherie (Gola) of Grand Prairie, TX, 11 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. The Rewis family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the loving care provided by the staff of Lakeview Nursing Center and the Hospice Unit at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport. A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 25, 2019, at 10 a. m. at the Wayfare Cemetery, Statenville, GA, where she will be interred next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the St. Joseph’s Indian School, Chamberlain, SD. Della’s passing will leave an emptiness with her loved ones which will be impossible to fill. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is in charge of arrangements. View and sign register book at www.bradfordokeefe.com
