MSgt Dewey Richard Buck, USAF, Retired, died peacefully in Gulfport on Tuesday, April 24th, 2018 at the age of 69 after a 35 month long battle with cancer.
Dewey was born in Gulfport on November 29, 1948 to Myrtle Purchner and Harold Buck, the 3rd of seven children. He married Linda Perdue in 1970.
After graduation from Harrison Central High School, he joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed at several stateside locations including Chanute AFB IL, Ellsworth AFB SD, Craig AFB AL, Wurtsmith AFB Michigan, and Blytheville AR. During the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Thailand. In 2005, he retired from Keesler Air Force Base after serving 27 years with the Hurricane Hunters as an NCOIC of the NDI Lab.
Dewey’s hobbies included golf, wood working, motorcycling, and camping. His most favorite times were spent making memories with his grandson, Brandon. In recent years he often could be seen riding in his Ford Shay as he was a member of the Pine Belt Antique Auto Club. He was a generous individual, always lending a helping hand. After his retirement, he volunteered at KAFB pharmacy and hospital.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Linda; his parents; and a brother, Michael.
Dewey is survived by his daughters, Amanda (John) and Sommer; his grandson, Brandon; and siblings, Tommy, Ross (Robbie), Rose (Kenneth), Susan (Billy), and Gordon (Cindy).
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 29th, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, O’Neal Road, Gulfport to celebrate Dewey’s life. Interment will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.at the Biloxi National Cemetery with military honors by the United States Air Force.
