Dorothy Mae Harlan Webb, age 87, died Wednesday, May 15th, 2018, at her home in Gulfport, Mississippi with her family by her side. Dorothy was born December 18, 1930 in Gulfport to parents James L. Harlan and Emma Meisner Harlan. Dorothy (Dot) lived the entirety of her life in the town that she loved—Gulfport. Dot attended Gulfport High School, where she was in the National Honor Society and also played on the school’s Basketball and Tennis teams. She excelled in tennis, playing in and winning a state championship in 1947. While playing mixed doubles tennis, she fell in love with Charles (Charlie) A. Webb, Jr. Their friendship grew into a love that lasted more than 65 years. After graduating from Gulfport High School in 1948, Dot worked at Hancock Bank. On May 7, 1950 she married Charlie, welcoming their first child Charles Almon Webb III in 1952. Over the next few years their family would grow to include Gary Leroy Webb, Penny Lynn Webb, and Bryan Harry Webb. Dot had a gracious smile and a loving soul that warmed the hearts of others. She loved to paint, create ceramic artwork, and taught children in various churches and school programs. Dot was passionate about her local community, involved in many civic and community organizations throughout her life, including the Prudence Alexander Chapter of the DAR. Dot had a strong relationship and faith in God, dedicating both her time and talents to Trinity Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for over 25 years. Dot was most well known as "Goggy" to family and friends. Goggy is survived by her sister, Peggy Jane Harlan Pendergraft of Jay, OK; sons Charles A. Webb III (Terri) of Gulfport; Dr. Gary L. Webb (Wanda) of Dallas, TX. Goggy was predeceased by her husband, Charles A. Webb, Jr., her daughter, Penny Webb Carvin; son, Bryan Harry Webb; Goggy is also survived by her grandchildren: Charles A. Webb IV of Birmingham, AL; Timothy H. Webb (Kim) of Memphis, TN; Courtney W. Ware (Josh) of Gulfport, MS; Clayton Clark Webb (Adair) of Dallas, TX; Alexander Ross Webb (Annalisa) of Dallas, TX; William Garrett Webb (Brianne) of Dallas, TX; John Harlan Webb of Dallas, TX; Kellie Baker Hall (Ben) of Atlanta, GA; and Chris Baker (Tara) of Elkton, MD; step-grandchildren Tiffany Hadaway Noble (Adam) of Biloxi, MS, and Andrew Hadaway (Erin) of Destin, FL. Goggy is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren. The Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home, 1726 15th Street, Gulfport will host visitation Friday, May 18, 1:00 pm – 2:00 p.m., with a service directly following at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to a church or charity of choice.
