Dorothy Kunig

Mrs. Dorothy Kunig, age 89, of Biloxi, MS passed away on the late evening of Saturday, December 28, 2019 in Biloxi. Dorothy was born in Miami, FL. She was not only a dedicated wife and mother, but she was also a follower of Christ who loved to volunteer her time in the service of others. Her first husband was a member of the United States Air Force for 25 years. While they were stationed from one place to the next, including the Philippines, Dorothy volunteered at numerous military hospitals. She would devote her time to taking care of patients on opposite ends of the spectrum. She enjoyed working in the maternity ward at one time and then at another she would be sitting with soldiers as they took their last breath while she held their hands. Dorothy traveled the world while being a spouse of two military servicemen. No matter where she was, she always found home at the local Church of Christ. While married to her second husband, Tom, they lived in Miami FL, Newport News, VA and eventually settled in Biloxi, MS where they were long standing members of The Rodenberg Church of Christ. She loved her church family greatly and spoke about them often. During her final years as a resident of Greenbriar Nursing Center, she was known as “Mrs. Social Butterfly”. She always enjoyed visiting with other residents and staff, staying active by taking daily walks around the center and taking part in numerous events hosted by the facility. She never met a stranger, was always concerned about the wellbeing of others, always had a kind word to say about everyone and always had a positive attitude. She also enjoyed reading, spending time with family and friends, eating at the local Chinese restaurant and attending church. All through her adult life...until the end...she dedicated her life to be in service of others. She loved tending to and comforting others during their best and worst times. She loved Jesus Christ and wanted to set a good example as His humble servant. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oklahoma and Kathleen Hutchinson; her first husband, Louis McGilvary; and her second husband, Tom Kunig. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Michael (Vanessa) McGilvary of Tallahassee, FL, Richard (Rose) McGilvary of Yorktown, VA and Rodney (Patricia) McGilvary of Biloxi, MS; her grandchildren, Michael Jr., Renae, Paul (Deirdre), Heather (Marc), Travis, Dana, Tesa and Kathleen (Leo); her great-grandchildren, Reis, Ashley, Jon, Kade, Gage and Robert; her great-great-grandchildren, Brinley, Gabriela, Gavin, Maya and Kia; and her lifelong best friend, Hazel Ehnes and family. A Memorial Service will be held at the Rodenberg Church of Christ on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at 10:00 am. Friends may visit from 9:00 am until service time. A graveside service will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 11:00 am. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
