Dorothy Norman, age 87, a native of Meridian and resident of Biloxi for over 50 years passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 29, 2018. Dorothy moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast after meeting and falling in love with her “soldier boy” the love of her life, the late Hal J. Norman who was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base. They married in a double wedding ceremony with their lifelong friends Christine and the late Morris Driver who was also stationed at Keesler Air Force Base. Dorothy and her husband were Charter members of Beauvoir United Methodist Church in Biloxi and Trinity United Methodist Church in Gulfport. She was a former member of the Jane Cox Circle. Dorothy was a member of the Biloxi friends of the library. She was an avid reader and awesome cook. Dorothy loved the beach and camping with her husband, sons and other family members in their RV. She was a true “Beach Bum”. She is known by many for her involvement as a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack #222 which she and her husband led for many years. She and her husband were involved in the local community and were well respected. Dorothy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by sons, Michael S. “Paps” Norman, Sr. of Houma, LA and Brion Scott Norman and wife Elizabeth Balius Norman of Biloxi, grandchildren, Michael S. Norman, Jr. and wife Becky, Mark Brion Norman and Sarah Ellen Norman, great-grandchildren, Hayley Bradshaw Norman, Michael Barrett Norman, Jaxon Bryce Norman, Christian Kyle Norman, Huck Alexander Norman, sister, Janet Plank and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal James Norman and parents, Bessie Woods Bagley Armstrong and Marcus Daniel Phillips and her second husband Webster Lee Armstrong. Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Southern Memorial Park Cemetery in Biloxi at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Michelle Bailey officiating. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Marion Wainwright, her longtime physician for her loving, compassionate and tireless care. They would also like to express appreciation to Seashore Highlands Assisted Living Center and their staff, especially Brenda and Willette for their exceptional care of our mother. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Beauvoir United Methodist Church, Friends of the Biloxi Library or The American Heart Association or charity of your choice.
