Earl Lamar Denham, Jr., age 71, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 in Gulfport, MS.
Mr. Denham, a longtime resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, was born in Biloxi, MS on July 1, 1947 to Ruby Jewel Young Denham and Earl Lamar Denham, Sr. After graduating from Gulfport High School, Mr. Denham attended the University of Mississippi where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and held memberships in Omicron Delta Kappa, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Order of Omega. He continued his education at the University of Mississippi School of Law, obtaining his Juris Doctor in 1972. As a young man, he also served as a Captain in the U.S. Army for a few years before ultimately retiring to focus on his law career.
For the next forty-six years, Mr. Denham devoted his life to the practice of law. He was a proud member of several law societies, including the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Lamar Order, and the Southern Trial Lawyers Association, of which he served as President in 2015. In 2016. He received the prestigious War Horse Award for his unwavering advocacy of the “underdog” and for his significant contributions to the legal community.
Mr. Denham is predeceased by his parents, Ruby Jewel Young Denham and Earl Lamar Denham, Sr.; son, Israel Anderson Denham; and sister, Harriet Denham Harman.
He is survived by his children, Beth Denham Buford, Nathan Levi Denham, Earl Lamar “Trey” Denham, III, Judith Jaya Denham, Sachika Braka Denham, Arya Tova Denham, and Ariela Anuja Denham.
There will be a visitation from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 20 at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. A private burial will be held at a later date.
