Elmer Cuevas was born in Picayune, MS on September 1, 1940, and passed away on November 19, 2020, after a battle with the Covid-19 virus.
Elmer was a local truck driver for most of his life until an injury forced him to retire in 1997. Elmer was a good man and great father, loved by all his family and friends. Always one to have a smile on his face, with his silly humor he could always put a smile on your face and he was quick with a comeback.
He was a hard worker and made sure his family had what they needed. He was the youngest of 8 children and raised by his mother. Not having a father figure around when he was young never kept him from becoming a great father to his children.
Elmer loved the outdoors and the sporting dog life style, from running rabbits with his beagles to treeing coons with his coon hounds. He truly loved being with family and friends enjoying the outdoors.
Elmer is preceded in death by his father Daisy Cuevas, mother Eluvia Cuevas, his first love of 40 years, Gilda Faye (Barnes) Cuevas; brothers David Cuevas, who died serving his country in WWII, Sydney Ray Cuevas, John W. Cuevas and a baby brother who died as an infant; sisters Gracie Fore, Betty Arnold and Sally Parker.
He is survived by his current wife of 15 years and best friend Leona (Dedeaux) Cuevas, daughters LaJuan (Danny) Walker, JoAnn (Ray) Holston, Tammy (Ted) Faust; sons Eugene (Shelley) Cuevas, Troy Cuevas; stepchildren Stoney (Janice) Dedeaux, Shelly (Jason) Dedeaux; many grandkids and great grand kids, many other family members, nieces and nephews. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 22, 2020, at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15452 O’Neal Road, Gulfport, MS from 5-7 p.m. The funeral service will be Monday, November 23, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in McHenry, MS.
Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home is honored to serve the Cuevas family.
