Ethel Presley Barnett, age 86, passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2018.
Mrs. Barnett was a longtime resident of D'Iberville. She was the most loving mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Ethel and her husband "Red" opened several businesses in D’Iberville starting in 1959. The first business being The Frosty Mug and later The Red and White Grocery, Les's GE Appliance Store, Five and Dime Store, and a liquor store later destroyed by hurricane Camille. They later relocated to the current Barnett Plaza reopening Bayside Foods, the first US Post Office Substation of D'Iberville, and later Bayside Furniture and Appliances where she retired in 2006. She was named the first Queen of Mardi Gras for the D'Iberville Community Club in 1957 and later received the Bob Stein Business of The Year Award in 2011.
Ethel was proceded in death by her husband of 50 years, L.H. "Red" Barnett Sr.; her parents, Walter and Annie Presley; her sisters, Ann Cosgrove, Willie Stivers, and Ressia Munford.
Survivors include her son, Les Barnett and his wife Elizabeth; grandchildren, Tyler Barnett, Emily Barnett, Patrick Parson, and Meghan Corrigan and her husband Michael; and sister, Linda Schneider and husband Lynn.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, Sept 11, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and services will be held Wednesday, Sept 12, 2018 at 10:00 am all at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home with burial to follow at Southern Memorial Park.
