Eugene "Gene" E. LaCaze Sr., 75, died March 10, 2018 in Biloxi, MS. He was born on September 19, 1942 in Biloxi, Mississippi. Mr. LaCaze managed the Saenger Theater, where he waded through the flood waters of Hurricane Camille in the lobby, he worked there until it closed in 1974. He managed the Hardy Court Theater, where he met his former wife Miss Gina Sinopoli LaCaze, until 1978. Mr. LaCaze was an Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Deputy. He was also a guard for Louisiana State Penitentiary. He started working at the MGM Beau Rivage in Biloxi when it opened in 1999 until he retired in 2007. Mr. LaCaze was a lifetime member of Nativity BVM and sang in the choir for many years. He was a dedicated and loving father, who loved to sing, was an avid photographer and adored antique cars.
Mr. LaCaze is preceded in death by his father, Eugene L. LaCaze; his mother, Thelma Chastant LaCaze; his sister Lana Fay LaCaze Bayer; and his nephew, Lawrence Bayer.
He is survived by his son, Eugene LaCaze Jr. of Biloxi, MS; his niece, Heidi Bayer of Harvey, LA; his nephew, Frank Bayer of Harvey, LA; and his former wife, Gina Sinopoli LaCaze of Gulfport, MS.
Visitation will be held at Nativity BVM on Howard Avenue in Biloxi, MS on Saturday, March 17, 2018 from 11am until 12pm which will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12pm. He will be laid to rest in the Old Biloxi City Cemetery. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
