Helen Winona Bounds, 98, a resident of Biloxi, died at home on Saturday, January 9, 2021.
She is a former member of St. James Catholic Church and current member of Fatima Catholic Church.
Helen’s professional life was diverse. She worked as a beautician and contractor for W.P. Marshall Construction Co. and Southern Bell Telephone Co. She was a dispatcher for the Gulfport police department for 9 ½ years, receiving commendations from the U.S. Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force, and F.B.I.
She served on the Harrison County Correctional Facilities Finance Authority and was at one time President of the Sunkist Garden Club and the Gulf Coast Camellia Society.
She loved to cook for family and friends, paint porcelain, and garden.
She is preceded in death by her first husband Henri E. Attaya, mother Lelia Kern Lee, stepfather Lyman R. Lee, aunts Ruby (Dexter) Mae Kern, Ivy (Chester) Lee “Toby” Favre, and Dolly (Harley) Kern Nash, uncle Arthur Kern (Alice), grandparents Lorena Switzer Kern and Louis Kern, and cousins Helen Nash Sousa and James L. Nash.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years Kenneth Bounds, and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Fatima church on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Floral Hills Cemetery. Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is honored to serve the Bounds family.
