Herbert “Herb” Glenn Carnathan, Sr., age 92 of Gulfport died Thursday, February 4, 2021 in Gulfport. Mr. Carnathan was born in Birmingham, Alabama where he received his elementary and secondary education. Upon graduation from high school he entered the U.S. Navy for approximately two years. He entered the University of Alabama where he earned his undergraduate degree in 1950 and a Master of Commerce in 1960 while assigned as an AFFROTC INSTRUCTOR. He entered the United States Air Force in May 1951 following one year as an account executive for radio stations in Cullman and Montgomery, Alabama. Carnathan retired from the Air Force in1970, having attained the status of a Regular Officer, and the rank of Lt. Colonel. On retirement he was employed as an Administrative Assistant to the President of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for 12 years. On resignation from the college in 1982, he started a management consulting business, Creative Management. He finished his professional work as a consultant for the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department. Carnathan was a Rotarian. He worked with the Coast Community Concert Association. He was an adjunct instructor with the Community College and taught Basic Computer Programming from 1982 to 1987. He was a “55 Drive Alive- AARP Mature Driving Course” instructor. His death was preceded by the death of his first wife, Betty Carnathan, who died June 11, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Peggy Carnathan; two sons, Glenn and his wife, Jill, and Kenneth; four granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren. The family prefers contributions to the Rotary Foundation through the Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Gulfport, MS, USA, P.O. Box 1436, Gulfport, MS 39502. The funeral service is Friday, February 12, 2021 at 12 noon at Trinity United Methodist Church in Gulfport where friends may visit beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Hattiesburg, MS.
