Jacquelyn "Jackie" Richner Charbonnet

Jacquelyn “Jackie” Richner Charbonnet passed away in Ocean Springs, Mississippi on Friday, December 8, 2017, at the age of 97 years. She was born on October 18, 1920, in Twinsburg, Ohio, to Edward Herman Richner and Irene Nichols Richner. Her brother was the late Charles Edward Richner. Jackie married her adored husband of 71 years, the late Wilfred “Will” Hellmers Charbonnet in Boston on June 7, 1943. They enjoyed traveling the world together. Jackie, who was known to her children, grandchildren, and close friends as Mère, was mother to four boys, Michael Dean Charbonnet (Laura Tomskey), Gregg Allen Charbonnet, Clark Richner Charbonnet (Lisa Pressly), and Derrick Wilfred Charbonnet (Norma Herrington); grandmother to nine; and great-grandmother to ten, with two more on the way. She held a bachelor's degree in psychology from Kent State University and served as an educational diagnostician during and after World War II. Jackie was active and ebullient, and her joy and vitality were evident wherever she went. Over many years she wove more than her share of the fabric of society through her involvement in organizations such as the DAR, PEO, MCMOA, Gulf Coast Musical Theatre, St. Luke’s, The Lord is My Help, and her beloved First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs, where she was at various times an elder, chorister, secretary, and a building committee member for the existing sanctuary. To the end, she partook of the joys of weekly coffee klatches and large family gatherings. Ever the consummate wife and mother, she and Will shepherded four sons to successful lives and fostered close ties among the many cousins. Her family was a source of joy to her, and her warmth and love will be profoundly missed. A celebration of her life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs starting with a visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, January 13, 2018. In lieu of flowers, please, contribute to the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs. Special thanks go to the ladies of PDN Inc., who facilitated Jackie’s activities during recent years. Lastly, we want to thank the nursing staff in the SICU at Ocean Springs Hospital, and Dr. Michael Darin and his associates for helping her transition from this life to the “Great Beyond” and for helping us accept the sudden need for her to cross that bridge.
