Jaime Arce Samonte, also known as “Pong”, “Lolo” or “Jim”, age 84, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away Thursday, April 15, 2021 in Ocean Springs.
Mr. Samonte was born in Cavite City, Philippines on August 29, 1936 to Godofredo and Paz Samonte. After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Navy. After his service in the U.S. Navy, he began his employment with Ingall’s Shipbuilding until his retirement. Mr. Samonte enjoyed playing Mahjong, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsa Samonte; his parents; and his siblings, Leonardo Samonte, Benjamin Samonte, Celia Samonte Crisostimo and Dr. Zenaida Samonte Martinez.
Mr. Samonte’s survivors include his wife, Mila Samonte; his children, Roy Samonte, Evelyn Samonte Douglas, Christina Samonte Ivey and Myrna Samonte Tolar; his grandchildren, Karly Douglas, Lindsey Douglas, Taylor Samonte, Jakob Samonte, Jordan Tolar, Shelby Ivey, Gabrielle Ivey, Lola Ivey and Elsa Grace Samonte; his great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Ivey and Aiden Tolar; and his siblings, Purification Samonte Nuguid, Angela Samonte Herrera, Lydia Samonte Lardin, Nora Samonte and Jose Samonte.
Visitation will be held at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Porter Avenue in Ocean Springs on Monday, April 19, 2021 from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 11:00 am. Friends may visit from 10:00 am until Mass time. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Senior Center in Ocean Springs from 1:30 pm until 5:00 pm.
