James “Jim” Oliver Blount, 90, passed away peacefully at the V.A. Hospice in Biloxi on Father’s Day, June 18, 2017. Jim was born on March 16, 1927 to Zelma and Presley Blount, Sr.
A veteran of the Merchant Marines in WWII and the USAF, Jim retired after 32 years teaching and managing training at Keesler AFB Biloxi. Jim’s research in emotional bonding and expertise in handwriting analysis resulted in several books. His life experiences were detailed in his book, Adventures on Land and Sea. He valued his role as mentor and counselor to family and friends.
Jim was a loving husband and father. He adored and cherished Metzie and Catherine and took great care of them until their deaths. His example insured that Steven, Brian, and Scott became loving husbands. He instilled honesty, integrity, and determination in them and his grandchildren. The Blount family members share a strong bond and feel blessed and proud of their heritage.
Jim loved his friends and coffee at the Bayou View Hardware (country club) daily. Always a flirt, he was still winking at the ladies last week. He loved his daily morning mochas with Steven. A talented dancer, he was always first on the floor.
Our sweet prince has hung up his dancing shoes.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Cecil and Presley; sisters, Betty and Lucile; and his wives, Amelia Metzie Manieri Blount and Catherine Taconi Blount.
Survivors include brother, David; sons, Steven (Nancy), Brian (Rozanne), and Scott (Debbie). Jim was a proud “Poppie” to Grayson Wallace (Liz), Katelen Blount (Michael) Lowry, Allison Rozanne Blount and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Pass Road Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 12:30 pm. Friends may visit from 11:30 am until service time. Interment will follow at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
