Jeneva K. Shoemaker, 82 years young, passed away Monday, August 31, 2020.
Jeneva was a resident of Ocean Springs for over 57 years. She was very active in her children’s lives as a Red Cross aide for Magnolia Elementary, substitute teacher, Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, major softball fan, band parent and PTA supporter. She retired from the Biloxi Veterans Administration where she started as a PBX operator and held multiple other positions during her years trying to make a difference for her veterans. Her final position was as Senior Prosthetics Clerk ensuring veterans in three states got what they needed to live a better life. Her retired life revolved around spoiling her grandkids and keeping her husband on his toes.
Every year her favorite event was the multiple family reunions at West Point Lake, hanging out with family and friends. She was well known for her honest, blunt attitude and big heart. Many loved her at first meeting. Many folks will remember her asking for extra napkins (not one or two) plenty, don’t you dare skimp on my napkins!
Our world was so much better because of her and will be a sadder place with her passing. As a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, she loved everyone who entered and made sure to keep everyone on their Ps and Qs!
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Shoemaker MSGT RET (USAF); her parents, Palmer and Doris Knight; her sister, Betty Jean Strong; brother-in-law, Andrew (Earl) Strong SR.; brother-in-law, Charles (Chuck) Green; brother-in-law, Marshall K. Shoemaker; sister-in-law, Diane Shoemaker; and nephews, Anthony (Scotty) Green and Andrew (Butch) Strong Jr.
She is survived by her twin sister, Janette Green; daughters, Sherri (Donald MSGT RET USAF) Foster and Patricia (Drew) Rayner II; son, Russell (Diane) Shoemaker; grandchildren, Aaron (Courtney) Rayner, Katherine (Daniel) Wilson, Jaclyn (Aaron) Wise, Daniel (Tara) Rayner, Benjamin Foster, Julie (Matthew) Moorman; great grandchildren, Paul Langley, Samantha Langley, Ansley Rayner, Ella Avery, Hannah Avery, Ryder Avery, Ceceila (CJ) Wise, Ezra Wise, Madilyn Rayner and Reagan Moorman; nephews, Charles (Jackie) Green, Kevin (Wendy) Shoemaker and Kyle (Julie) Shoemaker; nieces, Alicia (Tom) Boelter, Choshee (Dave) Murray, Jhoshee (Denver) Garcia, Alicia Ann (James) Wruck and Kelli (Eric) Burrous; and numerous great nieces and nephews and cousins all over the world.
