Mr. Jerry Lawrence Gavin, age 77, died on Tuesday, April, 27, 2021. Mr. Gavin was born in Biloxi, MS on May 10, 1943. He attended Biloxi schools and grew up on Back Bay and "The Point”. He served in the United States Army during the time of the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1970. He then began a varied career which included steeplejack work on the Greater New Orleans Bridge and the Superdome. He also worked with Bechtel Corporation where he became a foreman in the application of extreme temperature paint systems. Those projects included mobile oil drilling rigs to be employed in Alaskan waters, and rocket launch pads at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, and Cape Canaveral in Florida. His Bechtel employment resulted in jobs in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Borneo, South Korea, and several sites in the United States. He enjoyed traveling and playing golf. Mr. Gavin was preceded in death by his parents, Howard “Dudie” Gavin and Leila Reid Gavin Hebert; and by his wife, Linda (Broussard) Gavin. He is survived by siblings: Donald Gavin (Judy), Michael Gavin (Demple), Jeanette Gavin-Delahoussaye (Jerry), Carroll Hebert (Millie), and Sandra Hebert-Locke (Casey); and many nieces and nephews who dearly loved him. As per his request, there will be no formal services. Family will conduct a private celebration of life at a later date. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Biloxi, is honored to serve the family of Jerry Gavin.
