Joan E. Pion, age 79, of Ocean Springs passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019.
Mrs. Pion was born on October 22, 1939 in Providence, Rhode Island. She graduated from Scituate High in Rhode Island and Rhode Island School of Cosmetology.
Mrs. Pion was a lifetime member of BPOE 2501 of Ocean Springs, served on the Altar Society at St. Elizabeth Seton, and was a member of the Crimson Magnolia Red Hat Gals. She was also a longtime member of St. Andrews Ladies Association and served as Mardi Gras Duchess in 1988 and 2018, and Queen in 1990. Mrs. Pion was a beautician and enjoyed dancing, golf, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John J. Azevedo and Mary B. Wentworth; son, Jean Y. Pion, Jr.; grandchild, Jean Y. Pion III; sisters, Winifred Donnelly and Beatrice Hicks; brothers, John Azevedo and Edwin Azevedo; brothers-in-law, Joseph Bernard and Bernard Pion; and numerous nieces and nephews
Survivors include her spouse, Jean Y. Pion; son, Dennis J. Pion; daughter, Lisa M. (Joel) Coutu; grandchildren, Don W. (Kaitlyn) Pion; Melissa Dubaz (Lewis Allen); great-grandson, Jameson Allen; sisters-in-law, Rita Bernard, Francoise (Clyde) Staubley, and Joan Pion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 25, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church. Friends may visit one-hour prior to service. Her ashes will be spread at Hazzard Rock in Narragansett, Rhode Island at a later date. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe is in charge of arrangements.
