On Sunday, June 14, 2020, my brother, Johnny, a resident of Biloxi, MS, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 at Merit Health, Biloxi, MS.
He began his life’s journey in Mobile, AL where he was born on August 21, 1942 to James Ellie Owens and Esther McCurley Owens. After moving to the Long Beach, CA, he attended Jordan High School where he lettered in football and received scholarship offers from several colleges. After High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served four years for his country. During his time in the USAF, he served overseas, then returned to teach electronics at Keesler Air Force Base. Once he was discharged, he traveled from coast to coast seeking peace and happiness, finally finding it with the help of the VA here in Biloxi. Johnny loved to make people laugh and smile, especially those that went out of their way to help him. He was loved by all that knew him and wanted them to feel his love and appreciation in return.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, James E. Owens and Esther McCurley Owens; and his son, Kevin Williams. He is survived by his three daughters, one son and many grandchildren.
In addition, he is survived by his brother, James Lester Owens (Karen) of Elberta, AL; sisters, Joyce Tuberville of Mobile, AL, Jean Staskelunas (Ed) of Old Saybrook, CT, Joan Hill of Gulf Shores, AL, Jennifer Brown of Brewton, AL and Esther Bosarge (Bernie) of Mobile AL; and many nieces and nephews.
At a later date, Johnny’s Family will spread his ashes at sea as Johnny has requested.
