John Leslie Dockens, age 59, got his celestial legs on December 7, 2020. A swimming accident at 16 left him paralyzed from the chest down.
John was born on August 5, 1961. He worked as a civilian employee at KAFB for 25 years, earning many accolades and awards, including Civilian Employee of the Year. He taught himself computers inside and out and worked as an IT Specialist.
John had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and was called to the ministry as a priest in the Community of Christ, where he has taught Sunday School and served in various ministerial roles. An avid Alabama fan, he met Bear Bryant while in rehab in Jackson.
John was loved by all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by parents Arnold Earl Dockens and Doris Sheila Dockens Babin, as well as grandparents Clarence and Winnie Dockens of Mobile, Alabama and Alfred and Doris Thomas of Warrington, England.
He is survived by brothers David (Maxine), Steven, and Paul (Stacy), nephews Bryant and Ryan, niece Sarah, and great-nephew Caleb.
Visitation will be on Saturday, December 12, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Community of Christ at 403 Halstead Road, Ocean Springs. A service will immediately follow. The service will also be livestreamed on the Community of Christ Facebook page. Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, Ocean Springs, is honored to serve the Dockens family.
