John Sutera

John Sutera, age 85, of Ocean Springs, MS was called unto the Lord on April 12, 2020 at the Biloxi VA. John was a twin and the last born of 13 children unto Joseph and Josephine Sutera in Brooklyn, NY. He loved the Lord with all his heart. John served the Lord through his love of music while leading the song services, leading the choir, singing solos and with others, and playing his trumpet. Other ways in which he served the Lord in his younger years was serving as a Deacon, in youth activities, and of course he never stopped witnessing to people about the Lord. John served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, which in turn allowed him to meet the love of his life, Dorothy, AKA “Honey”, while stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi. This past July they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He also retired from the Biloxi VA after 25 years where he worked on the Gold Team. John was preceded in death by his father and mother, Joseph and Josephine Sutera; 6 brothers, Nat, Joe, Jack, Tommy, Leo, and Peter; 5 sisters, Mary, Theresa, Jennie, Lucy, and Katie; and his oldest son, Thomas Duane Sutera. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Sutera; son, Mark Sutera; and daughter, Cynthia Sutera (Rocky Roberts) all of Ocean Springs; sister, Gracie Bannister of Pea Ridge, AR; 4 grandchildren, Brandon Hughes of Ocean Springs, MS, Ashton Hughes Hutchens (Daniel Hutchens) of Ocean Springs, MS, Lauren Sutera Rodgers (David Rodgers) of Mobile, AL, and Jonathan Sutera of Ocean Springs, MS; 6 great-grandchildren, Saniyah Hughes, Lanny Waltman, Jace Garth, Brandon Hughes, Jr., Madison Hutchens, and Andrew Rodgers; and numerous Nieces and nephews in several areas of the United States. The family would like to thank the staff at the Biloxi VA, Niagara ward, for the wonderful care and support to John and the family during his stay. Also thank you to Saad Healthcare for the care provided for the years in which he was able to stay at home. The love for him from everyone has been so special. Anybody that knew our John loved him and knew that he had a heart of gold. Private services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. Interment will be at Biloxi National Cemetery.
