Joseph Cecil Montgomery, Sr.

Joseph Cecil Montgomery Sr., age 93, died Monday morning, July 23, 2018 at Lemoyne Place in St. Martin, where he resided for the last three months. Mr. Montgomery was born in Biloxi on September 9, 1924 and remained a lifelong resident of our coastal community. He began his career as a public servant joining the Navy to serve our country during WWII from 1941-1945 on the USS Colorado in the Pacific. After the war, Mr. Montgomery became a distinguished member in his community. He worked diligently alongside the people of the community to organize the D’Iberville Little League and Biloxi Southern Little League. Mr. Montgomery was the voice of the D’Iberville Warriors and called all the game’s activities from the press box for twenty years. During this time, he also served for twelve years as the Justice Court Judge for District 5 and served as a representative for the Harrison County Park Commission for District 1 for ten years. Mr. Montgomery gave his time and talents to numerous organizations such as the North Bay Mardi Gras Association, the Little League Association, the D’Iberville Community Club for forty years, and volunteered countless hours following storms and disaster relief to aid those in time of need. He was also a member of the Joppa Shriners and the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Montgomery had great love for his country, family, and his community. He is preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae Diaz Montgomery; son, Charles “Chuck” Michael Montgomery; daughter-in-law, Lisa Cox Montgomery; brothers, James Earl Montgomery and Leslie Frances Montgomery; sisters, Marie Elizabeth Montgomery, Ursula Montgomery Sherman and Doris Montgomery Stojcich; and parents, Joseph Henry Montgomery and Catherine Fountain Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery’s survivors include his three sons, Joseph Jr. “J.C.” (Linda) Montgomery, Robert (Liz) Montgomery and James (Tylah) Montgomery; his two daughters, Debra (Mike Sr.) Cox and Judy (Joey) Gary; his daughter-in-law, Sharon Montgomery; his sister, Catherine Montgomery Butterfield; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great- grandchildren. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D’Iberville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church in D’Iberville where friends may visit from 9:00 am until mass time. Interment will follow at D’Iberville Memorial Park. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
