Jules Louis Sturtevant, age 81, a lifelong resident of Biloxi and Ocean Springs, passed away at the Biloxi, MS VA Facility on Wednesday, July 12, 2017.
Jules was born in Westwego, Jefferson Parish, LA on February 9, 1936. He attended Biloxi Public Schools and completed his GED while serving as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received commendations and was honorably discharged with the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Services Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Jules was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Biloxi Chapter. He was an avid sportsman who loved fishing on the Gulf Coast. He particularly loved the outdooors and was one of the coast's greatest flounder fishermen using a rod and reel and his "secret" bait. He once caught a thirteen pound flounder off an Ocean Springs pier!
Jules was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie O. Sturtevant, Sr. and Mildred Marie Mathieu Sturtevant, grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Sturtevant, aunts,Thelma Hewitt and Esther V. Sturtevant, brother, Sidney Sturtevant and niece, Mildred Marie "Millie" Sturtevant.
Survivors includes his brother, Les (Judy White) Sturtevant, sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Liz" Albert Sturtevant Baker, nieces, Elizabeth Jo Sturtevant (Harold) Rushing and Penny Ann Sturtevant (Greg) Payne, as well as several great-nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 20, from 5pm until 7pm, at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. On Friday, July 21, there will be a 10am graveside service in Southern Memorial Park Cemetery, Biloxi.
