LaNelle B. Eastland passed away on June 8, 2021; she was 90 years old. LaNelle was born in Eldorado, AR, to O. D. and Verna Marie Brackman. The Brackman family eventually moved to and became long-time residents of Hattiesburg, MS, where she met her first husband, Jamie Clay. Together, they had two children, Jim and Jan, and became very adept at moving to new towns as Jamie advanced in his retail career. Later in life, she married Charles Eastland, and they were able to share many wonderful years together as well, including an extended time in one of their favorite places, the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Carroll Brackman, and by Jamie and Charles as well as her son, Jim Clay. She is survived by her brother, M. D. Brackman, her daughter, Jan Jordan, and three step-children, Lamar Eastland, Jim Eastland, and Lynette Windham, as well as several nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She was proud of being “Mammaw” and “MamaNelle” to a family that included five living generations.
Wherever she lived, LaNelle was always active in her local church and taught Sunday School classes for many years. She loved gardening and growing beautiful flowers. LaNelle possessed a unique ability to meet new people from all walks of life and let them know that someone cared; she never met a stranger. There will be a short graveside service celebrating LaNelle’s life at the Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, MS, from 1:30-1:45 on Thursday, June 24, 2021, where her cremated remains will be buried with her husband, Charles. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Seekers Bible Fellowship Class at Temple Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, MS.
Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is honored to served the Eastland family.
