Leandre “Steve” Williams, (The Bop) passed away on April 6, 2021 in Ocean Springs, MS.
Steve, the baby of 13 children, was born in New Orleans, LA on August 13, 1946 to Wilfred Williams and Theophelia Verdin Williams. Steve worked as a crane operator in the petroleum industry in the 1970’s. Later, He was a staff manager for Security Plan Insurance and an agent for American General Life Insurance Company in New Orleans. Moving to the Gulf Coast in 1988, he worked for American General and for Union National Life Insurance, retiring in 2011. He won numerous awards and attended many annual conventions, insurance, and safety seminars. A 1967 graduate of John McDough High School in New Orleans, he also attended University of New Orleans. He was a past member of the Zig Zag Marching Club in New Orleans and a member of the Fleur de Lis Society in Biloxi. He loved LSU, going on cruises, and going to the Palace Casino. He enjoyed having people over for crawfish boils, and he never met a stranger. Steve said he met his wife when she tripped him in the Godfather Lounge in Metairie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edgar, Johnny, Joseph, Peter, Calvin, Jessie, and Gibson; and sisters, Mabel Duocher, Mildred Tastet, and Angeline Williams.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Tabb; sons, Leandre “Steve” Williams, Jr. and Shawn Williams; daughter, Sherie Williams; granddaughter, Meghan Green all of Jefferson, LA; sisters, Buelah Cuenca of Violet, LA and Annie Wolinski of Walker, LA; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank the caretakers of Tradition Hospice and at KareMed Assisted Living Home for their compassionate care of our loved one.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
