Lenard (Len) Sheldon Fishman

Lenard (Len/Lenny) S. Fishman, 80, a native of Lynn, MA, and longtime resident of Biloxi, MS, passed away peacefully with his family and special caregiver by his side on Sunday, October 18, 2015 from a lengthy illness. He was born September 15, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents, Esther and William Fishman of Biloxi, formerly of Lynn, MA. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wilma Davidson Fishman of Biloxi, MS; son, Mark A. (Phyllis) Fishman of Plano, TX; daughter, Cheryl A. Fishman of Gulfport, MS; and twin grandsons, Michael E. Fishman of Austin, TX and Robert S. Fishman of Dallas, TX. Other survivors are his brothers, Gerald Fishman of Salem, NH and Stanley (Gina) Fishman of Tewksbury, MA; sister, Elaine Whelan of York, ME; and many nieces and nephews. Len served in the U. S. Air Force and later taught electronics at Keesler AFB as a civilian instructor for 30 years before retiring in 1988. He later founded and operated Willensco Computer Sales and Training (named after him and his wife) in Biloxi, MS. He also taught computer classes at night for the Biloxi Community Education System. Len loved his New Orleans Saints and all Boston teams: the Red Sox, Celtics & Bruins. He enjoyed traveling, was an avid bowler in both ten pins and candlepins and enjoyed playing video poker at Treasure Bay. He belonged to GASCA (Gulf Coast Sports Car Association). He was a member of Congregation Beth Israel in Gulfport, MS, a member of B’nai Brith and was an active member of the Biloxi Lions Club, where he received The Edwin Dalstrom distinguished service award and the prestigious Melvin Jones Award in 2012 for his dedicated humanitarian services. In 2014, with the help of his wife and daughter, Len completed and published a book about his life titled “My Life – As I Remember It!” It is a gift that his family will always cherish. The family gives special thanks for their compassionate care given to Lenard by Ms. T., Madelyn, Veronica, Alicia, Grachell, Courtney, Natalie, Nicole, Joyce, Lameka, Juliette, Linda as well as numerous employees of Treasure Bay who helped make his visits in his last few years more enjoyable. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Congregation Beth Israel, 12277 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport, MS 39503; The Biloxi Lions Club, P.O. Box 196, Biloxi, MS 39533; The Michael J. Fox Foundation , P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014; or to a local charity of your choice. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Southern Memorial Park. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
