Lois Ann Barrilleaux Hedges

Lois Ann Barrilleaux Hedges of Ocean Springs, Mississippi passed away peacefully on Monday, May 31, 2021 at the age of 80. She was a proud native of the Mississippi Gulf Coast and (almost) lifelong resident of Ocean Springs. Before her death, she briefly resided with her daughter in Slidell, Louisiana. Lois was born in Biloxi and moved to Ocean Springs in elementary school. As a member of the Ocean Springs High School Class of 1958, she proudly reminisced about her days as a majorette, member of many clubs, and frequent attendee of sock hops with her high school sweetheart and husband, Arthur “Gilbert” Hedges, Sr. As an adult, Lois’ proudest moments came as a loving wife and mother of five children. While her role as a wife and mother was her most coveted job, she also worked for many years as a secretary, including at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Holden Earth Moving & Construction, and First Baptist Church. In her golden years, Lois cared for her aging parents and husband as they enjoyed retirement together. She also delighted in spending time with her kids and grandkids. After her husband’s passing, Lois maintained she was ready to join him in heaven. In the meantime, she found her love of wine and whiskey and took great joy in caring for her fur-child Sandy, a cat affectionately known as “Demon Cat” due to her inability to refrain from hissing at strangers and family alike. When not caring for Sandy or honing her skills as an amateur wine connoisseur, Lois stayed busy. She took joy in volunteering at the church and was a proud member of the Daughters of the King. She was also a talented seamstress, part-time nature watcher, green thumb gardener, and frequent participant in a Senior AquaZumba. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Ross Barrilleaux, father, Elton All-Saints Barrilleaux, brother, Pete Barrilleaux, and beloved husband of 53 years, Arthur Gilbert Hedges Sr. She is survived by her children, Arthur Hedges Jr. (Suzanne), Frank Hedges, Ron Hedges (Ione), Lori Lowery (Jimmy), and Kathy Sharp (Tommy), grandchildren, Jodi Godsey, Layla Hedges, Arthur “Gil” Hedges III, Marina Wilson, Michael Dry, Ross Hedges, Reganne Daigle, and Jacob Daigle, fur-grandkids, Dingo, Candy, and Charlie, great-grandchildren, Matthew Godsey, Summer Godsey, Anabelle Godsey, and Riley Hedges, and her dear cat, Sandy. Visitation will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 3:00pm immediately followed by a memorial service at 4:00pm. The family welcomes flowers and/or donations to the American Cancer Society. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Ocean Springs, is honored to serve the Hedges family.
