Lt. Colonel Sidney Melvin Marcus, USAF (Retired) Born January 31, 1932 in New York City has Bravely and Peacefully completed his Journey to be with God as his Co-pilot.
Respectfully and Affectionately known as “SMOOTH” (His Call Sign during the Vietnam War), Dad fulfilled an Incredible and Distinguished Air Force Career and was a Highly Decorated Air Force Officer and Combat Pilot, receiving two of our Countries most Prestigious Medals for Valor & Bravery; Three Air Force Distinguished Flying Crosses and Twenty-One Air Medals. He retired from his passion in 1985 after Protecting and Defending our Great Nation for more than 32 years.
Blazing the Path for Dad to Peace and Tranquility were his parents, Leonard and Pauline Marcus, his Brother Sonny Marcus and Dads Eternal Love and Soul Mate for life, our Mom, Joyce Honey Marcus.
Aside from his Military Career the other Passion in Life for Dad was his Family, whom he always placed second to none… A Gracious, Wise, Loving and Compassionate Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Teacher, Mentor, Leader and most of all Life Long Friend.
Dad has passed the gauntlet to his two sons, Joel (Major, USAF, Retired) and Jeff and their brides, Lisa and Toni; Grandchildren, Logan and his wife Carrie, Lauren, Leanna and her husband Danny, Hanna; and Great Grandchildren, Cohen and Avery, who will carry on all the Love & Traditions that He Instilled in our Minds & Souls for Eternity.
“Smooth” will complete his final mission, with full military honors including an AC-130 Gunship Fly over by the very unit he was a part of some 50 years ago in Vietnam at the VA National Cemetery in Biloxi, Mississippi on August 8, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. We first invite you to help us pay tribute to and honor our hero on August 8, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at the Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, located at 2511 Pass Road, Biloxi, Mississippi 39531.
In Lieu of flowers our family requests donations be forwarded to Dad’s place of worship, The Congregation Ahavas Chesed at 705 Regents Way, Mobile, Alabama 36609, in celebration of his life.
Rest Peaceably Dad, as you have now:
“Slipped the Surly Bonds of Earth, Put out your Hand and Touched the Face of God.”
GOD SPEED!
As our Love is with you Forever.
