Melvin “Turkey” Forehand, 74, of Vancleave, MS passed away Thursday, September 19, 2019 at his home in Vancleave.
Melvin was born August 16, 1945 in Vancleave, MS. He was an avid hunter known for killing turkeys and deer. Melvin was a logger for many years. He retired from the Jackson County Road Department as a tractor operator. Melvin enjoyed hunting and fishing, but mostly spending time with his wife and fur babies.
He was preceded in death by his son, Greg Mitchell; and his parents, Dan and Viola Forehand.
Melvin’s survivors include his wife, Ruby Mitchell Forehand; his fur babies, Chewy and LuLu Forehand; and his siblings, Sam (Estelle) Bang, Lula Mae (Jr.) Varnadore and Erma Lee (Buddy) Dobson.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to his wife Ruby to help with burial expenses.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Hospice of Light and Melvin’s nurse, Donna York for their kindness. Also, a special thanks to his sisters-in-law, Cathy Mitchell and Betty Dunnam for their help and his brother Sam for always helping him.
Visitation will be held at the Vancleave Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Sunday, September 22, 2019 from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm followed by a graveside service at the Vancleave Holiness Church Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Forehand residence in Vancleave.
