Michael Allen "Gio" Giovengo

Michael Allen “Gio” Giovengo (“Papa Bear” as Allen always called him), age 52, of Biloxi passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021. Mike was born on January 16, 1969 in New Orleans, LA to Anthony William and Mary Catherine Giovengo. He graduated from West Jones High School in Laurel, MS and joined the United States Air Force as a high school senior. Mike later left the Air Force and worked as an electrician. He then joined the Air Force Reserve and worked as a civil servant for Keesler Air Force Base until his death. Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He never met a stranger and if you ever met him, he was pretty unforgettable. Mike was one of a kind. He was always there to lend a helping hand and would give you the shirt off his back. Mike will truly be missed by all who knew him. He was a faithful LSU and Saints fan and would also support the Steelers with his Steel City Mafia family. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Day Giovengo: grandson, Ashton Wuertz; and father-in-law, Richard Hodges. Survivors include his wife of almost 22 years, Lori Giovengo; daughters, Emerald (Scott) Wuertz and Jordaan (Milus) Hendry; sons, Austin (Mamie) Brooks and Michael “Allen” Giovengo II; grandchildren, Lindsay Wuertz, Josalynn and Mason Kelley, Tyler Wuertz, Wes Hendry, and Trinity and Adeline Brooks; brothers, Tony (Dana) and Kevin Giovengo; nephews, Anthony (Carly) Ekes and Brandon (Mallory) Giovengo; nieces, Ashlyn (Warren ) Anderson, Alyssa Giovengo, Caitlyn (Gip) Hendrix, Brantlie (Landon) Boone, and Chloe Giovengo; mother-in-law, Cynthia Hodges; “brothers”, Jamie (Serina) Williamson, Neil (Shannon) Sherman, and David (Lisa) Heverly; and a host of other friends that are considered family. The family would like to thank Ochsner Medical Center for their wonderful treatment of Mike and our family and for our friends that are always there for us. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue in Biloxi. Family and friends are invited to visit from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery at a later date.
