Michael "Mike" James Reese

Michael “Mike” James Reese, age 74, died October 23, 2021, in the tranquility of his country home in Saucier, MS, surrounded by his adoring dogs.

Born July 26, 1947, in Jasper, AL to James Elbert Reese and Flora Ann Bollinger Reese, Mike was the eldest of five siblings. He attended Gulfport High School where he was active in numerous sports before joining the military. Always preferring ocean waters over the confines of a classroom, Mike became a dedicated member of the United States Coast Guard for six years. He continued to draw his strength, courage, and livelihood from the waters of the MS Gulf Coast. He was an avid outdoors-man and friend to all animals, most especially Harry, his mischievous and much-loved mule to whom he fed countless honey-buns.

Mike’s parents, Jim and Flora Ann; sister, Roberta Robin Berry of Pass Christian, MS; brother, Mark Kevin Reese of Henderson, TX; and Harry preceded him in death.

A loving and caring father and grandparent, Mike is survived by his daughter, Dixie Martino (Patrick) of Biloxi, MS, and two granddaughters; sisters, Suzanne Reese Keel (Nubbins) of Long Beach, MS and Margaret Reese Goodwin of Suwanee, GA; step-sister, Jill Currie Bohn; step-brothers, Glenn, Randall, Greg, and Garth Currie; numerous nieces, nephews, and his three treasured canines, Lola, Cloud, and Turtle Butt.

A special thanks is extended to the physicians and nurses of the Veterans Administration Hospital, New Orleans, LA for their excellent medical care and supervision; to the Harrison County Sheriff's Office and Animal Control for all their help over; and to family members, Suzanne and Nubbins Keel, loyal friends George and Suzie, Sue, and Elaine Stevens for their love and compassion.

Mike lived by the philosophy of “do what you can with what you have and where you are.” He will be remembered as a true friend to animals and people, a humorous storyteller, a courageous survivalist, and a kind human being. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Humane Society of South MS.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Biloxi National Cemetery.
