Mitchell Garlon Sevel, the beloved son of Mitchell and Earlene Sevel, entered into eternal peace on January 13, 2019 at the age of 47.
He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy DeRouen, his father Mitchell Sevel, Jr., his sister Renee’ Sevel Walker and his brother Thomas T. Sevel. He is survived by his brother and sisters, Michael D. Sevel (Pam), Carol Sevel Montefusco (Jerry) and Michelle Sevel Kidd (Jimmy). Mitch will be loved and remembered by all his nieces and nephews and the many friends, family and strangers he touched with the light in his soul.
Mitch had two great loves in his life, music and the sea. Mitch was born in Gulfport, Mississippi on April 10, 1971. He graduated from D’Iberville High School in 1989 and studied music at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at Perkinson, Mississippi. During his time at Perk, he composed music, played trumpet, was a roadie for The Mississippi Sound, a vocal member of The Sound Waves and the front man for The Rancid Cravings. Later, while working as a DJ across the Gulf Coast, he became well known and loved for his vocal stylings and quick wit. But as always, his first love was the Gulf. Born from a family of commercial fisherman, Mitch spent his most peaceful times at the helm. While he held a Master Captain’s License, his proudest achievement remained being regarded as one of the most proficient shrimpers on the Coast.
