Norbert Walter Lloyd, Sr. , 83, of Vancleave, MS passed away on Friday August 10, 2018 after a long battle with cancer.
Mr. Lloyd was born March 30, 1935 in Biloxi, MS to Murray and Ura Lloyd and resided in Biloxi most of his life until moving to Vancleave in 2002. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1954, joining the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean War from 1954-1958. Mr. Lloyd was a member of St. John Catholic Church, now Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, in Biloxi, MS for 67 years before moving to Christ the King Catholic Church in Latimer, MS. He was also a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus Council #1244.
He started his career as a Biloxi Firefighter in 1961 and retired as a Battalion Chief in 1987 with 26 years of service. He then retired from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Grounds Department in Gautier after 15 years of service.
Mr. Lloyd is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Eva Lea Lloyd; his parents, Murray and Ura Lloyd; and his son-in-law, Ricky Moore.
Survivors include his children, Deacon Norbert (Jane) Lloyd, Jr., Josh (Mary) Lloyd, Chris (Linda) Lloyd and Michele Lloyd Moore; his grandchildren, Lindsay (David) Illich, Mikki (Josh) Dier, Chris (Danielle) Lloyd, Sydney (Bryan) Gilly, Dylan (Kayla) Sawyer, Sarah (Thomas) Ledlow, James (Crystal) Daughtery, Shelby Moore and Savannah Moore; 18 great- grandchildren all of Vancleave; his sister, Nan Harrison of Biloxi; his sister-in-law, Euleta (Everett) Hunt and brother-in-law, Oren Woodrum, both of Oklahoma; and his special sweetheart and friend, Christine Brosh.
He was a good son, husband, father and brother. He lived his life by setting examples in his faith and work ethic. He was loved and cherished by his family and will be missed greatly.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregiver, Carolyn Baptiste and SAAD’s Home Health Nurses, Gloria Jacquet Kostmayer and Sarah Dryden.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Christ the King Parish Charities at 6705 Jim Ramsey Rd., Vancleave, MS 39565.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2018 from 9:00 until 11:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos Catholic Church, 360 Lameuse Street, Biloxi, MS with Interment to follow at the Biloxi City Cemetery.
