Mrs. Peggy Eley Brashier, age 86, of Biloxi, MS, passed away in her home Saturday, December 30, 2017, surrounded by her children and caregivers.
Peggy was born in Scooba, MS on August 31, 1931 where she graduated from Kemper County High School. She attended the University of Southern Mississippi, graduating with a degree in Home Economics in 1952. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She taught sixth grade in the Biloxi School system from 1957 to 1972. She then taught at St Joseph Elementary School in Thibodaux, LA from 1974 to 1979, and was a member of Ta Wa Si and the Amigas Club. She then returned to teach in Biloxi until her retirement in 1996. She was a member of the Junior Auxiliary, P.E.O., Biloxi Garden Club, Le Masque, past member of Billikens and was a past queen of Mithras. She enjoyed cooking big Sunday meals for her children and grandchildren. Some of her favorite activities were her supper club, playing bridge and socializing with her many friends. Peggy was a member of Nativity BVM Catholic Church.
Peggy Brashier was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jimmy Curtis Brashier; parents, Jesse Morris Eley and Winnie Bass Eley; and siblings, Charles Eley, Frances Eley Poole, Evelyn Eley Neil, Lois Eley Nelson, William Eley, Winnie Jean Eley Phillips, Allen Adams and Lloyd Adams.
Peggy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, affectionately known as “Momma Peggy”. She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Eley Brashier (Linden), Robert Allen Brashier (Rebecca), Mitchell Lloyd Brashier (Julie); her daughter, Meribeth Brashier; grandchildren, Brandon Elliot Brashier (Melissa), Dewey Brashier Mason (Patrick), Robert Bass Brashier, Jim Eley Brashier (Courtney), Linden Analise Brashier, Abbie Elizabeth Brashier, and Samuel Lloyd Brashier; and one great-granddaughter, Anna Katherine Brashier.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers Donna Bond, Sandra Saucier Hauersperger, Pam Bentz, and Diane McBride. The family also thanks Dr. Regina Mills for her many years of caring for their mother.
Visitation will be Friday, January 5, 2018 at 9:00 am at Nativity BVM Catholic Church, Biloxi, MS where family and friends may call until Mass time at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Southern Memorial Park, Biloxi, MS. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Biloxi First Inc, P.O. Box 982, Biloxi, MS 39533.
