Raymond "Ray" James Calvert

Raymond “Ray” James Calvert, age 94, of Biloxi, MS died October 3, 2018. He was born on March 30, 1924 in Bailey, MS. He attended Center Hill High School in Center Hill, MS – with Honors, Meridian Jr. College – Meridian, MS and received B.S. of Pharmacy from the University of MS. He graduated from Pharmacy School and participated in the Rho Chi Society. Ray was the Owner/Operator of Calvert Carraway Pharmacy at Bayview shopping center in Biloxi, MS. He served in the United States Army from January 7, 1943 to April 6, 1946. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service during World War II, serving in the European Command in England, Northern France, Germany, and Austria. His hobbies included photography, computers, people, traveling and excelling at whatever he did. Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Ollie Calvert and Bessie Pace Calvert; step-mother, Nettie Wilson Calvert; and sister, Clarice Calvert Gray. Survivors include his spouse, Robbie D. Calvert (married 11-23-73); children, Linda Kay Leder and James Lauren Calvert; step-children, Linda Diane Edwards and Misti Kim Lewis; grandchildren, Kelly Day, Kate Thorton, Matthew Calvert, Laurie Barclay, Sarah Threadgill, Bonnie Threadgill, Catina Rouse, Jessica Brittan, Zac Threadgill, Reece Threadgill, Taylor Lewis Waller, Casey Lewis, Aaron Lewis; great grandchildren, Annie Barclay, Anna L. Calvert, Cooper Calvert, Spencer Day, Maddie Day, Callie Day, Mary Thornton, James Thronton, Abraham Threadgill, Peyton Rouse, Reece Rouse, Joseph Brittan, Jacob Brittan, and Sadie Threadgill; brother, John Alton Calvert. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to be made to the Parkway Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 7206, D’Iberville, MS 39540. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the VA Hospice Care Unit Biloxi VA, Niagara Unit. Services will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Pass Rd. in Biloxi, MS. Friends may visit one-hour prior. Graveside service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery.
