Rev. Harry Lauder Gordon

Reverend Harry Lauder Gordon, having reached the age of 100, went home to be with his Lord Thursday, October 24, 2019, in Gulfport, MS. Harry was born in Pensacola, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Velma Gordon; his wife, Hazel Juanita Gordon; and two sisters, Ellen Marie and Addie V. He leaves behind his two sons, Harry (wife, Jane) and Charles Gordon; three grandchildren, Cheryl Nelson (husband, Larry), Jonathan (wife, Olija) Gordon, and Carolyn Gordon; one great-grandchild, April Nelson; along with nephews and nieces. In 1957, Harry’s career in the U.S. Navy ended with his retiring in the grade of Petty Officer First Class. During WWII, he was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Shangri-La, in the aviation machinist mate specialty. Following his Navy retirement, the highlight of his life was that of serving as pastor of Graham Baptist Church in Hialeah, Florida. And for a number of years, he served as one of the chaplains for the Greater Miami Rescue Mission in Miami, Florida. Harry had a passion for life. He became immediate friends with, and loved by, everyone he met. He had a heart of giving in true demonstration of his Christian beliefs and biblical teachings. Visitation is Monday, October 28, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m., at the Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, 2511 Pass Road, in Biloxi. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at 11:30 a.m., at the funeral home chapel. Internment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Avenue, Biloxi, MS with military honors. Reverend Thomas Mims, Director of the Gulf Coast Rescue Mission, will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request financial donations be made either to the U.S. Armed Forces Retirement Home, 1800 Beach Blvd., Gulfport, MS 39507 or to the Gulf Coast Rescue Mission, Inc., P.O. Box 4531, 2750 Mission Lane • Biloxi, MS 39535. Harry’s entire family extends their most sincere thanks and appreciation to the U.S. Armed Forces Home – Gulfport for the wonderful care their entire staff has provided our father during the many years of his residence there.
