Robert Frank Carter Jr MD

Robert Frank Carter Jr. MD (Bob) left this earth peacefully in his sleep on November 28, 2017 joining his beloved wife of 54 years, Patricia Moore Carter who preceded him in death in 2007. Born on June 19, 1927 to parents Robert Frank Carter Sr. and Thelma Carter in Pascagoula, Ms. with sisters MaryAnn Workman of Madison, Ms. and Shem Carter (deceased), Bob leaves his six adoring children Robert F. Carter III (Bobby) and his wife DeVeaux of Ocean Springs, John Gardere Carter (Gar) and his wife Lori of Ocean Springs, Patricia Carter Humphrey (Patti) and her husband Robert of San Francisco, James Moore Carter (Jamo) and his wife Patti of Ocean Springs, Thomas Mark Carter (Tommy) and his wife Cindy of Ocean Springs , Steven Brian Carter and his wife Mitzi of Ocean Springs and his loving companion Judy Howell of Ocean Springs. Bob Carter cherished his family and family gatherings were always happening at one of the family member’s homes in Ocean Springs. These cherished gatherings often included some of his 22 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Bob graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and obtained his medical degree at Tulane University in New Orleans. Upon graduating, Dr. Carter joined the Armed Services serving proudly as Captain in the US Air Force. After the Air Force he began his private medical practice in Pascagoula and Biloxi which he would continue for over 50 years until his retirement. Bob was famous for providing his medical services in exchange for fresh fruit or vegetables or whatever his patients could afford. Later in his medical career, Bob served as the FAA Medical Examiner. Dr. Bob, as he was affectionately known, was active in the Mississippi Gulf Coast community and will be missed by all his friends and family. He was a founding member of Treasure Oaks Country Club in Ocean Springs where he frequently entertained friends and family. Dr. Bob rarely missed a gathering of his monthly supper club, a group of local friends who have been getting together regularly for over 50 years. After his retirement, Dr. Bob volunteered his services to residents of the Home of Grace in Vancleave, Ms. He was a regular at Home of Grace giving out much needed medical care, conversation and compassion to those on the path to recovery. An accomplished artist, Dr. Bob spent endless hours at his easel or in his home studio. His art was shown regularly in local galleries and he was the recipient of multiple awards and recognition for his work at local art shows. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Services will be led by Pastor Milton Williams of Greater Life Church of Ocean Springs .
