Roland Joseph Diaz, Sr., 91, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020 in Meridian, MS.
Mr. Diaz was born in D’Iberville, MS on April 16, 1929 to Elinor Trochesset Diaz and Joseph Paul Diaz. He graduated from Jeff Davis Community College and retired from the U.S. Army as well as from Ingall’s Shipbuilding. In his prime, Mr. Diaz enjoyed hunting, fishing and making cast nets. He was very handy to have around because he could “fix” just about anything that was broken. “Pap”, as he was affectionately called, laughed easily, loved fiercely and will be sorely missed by those who had the good fortune to know him.”
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Evelyn Cain Diaz; his parents; and his sisters, Adrienne Diaz Spear and Marie Diaz Balius.
Mr. Diaz’s survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Roland Joseph Diaz, Jr. and Donna Powell Diaz; and his grandsons, Roland Joseph “RJ” Diaz, III and Jonathan Elias Diaz.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Rush Foundation Hospital ICU North medical staff and Fr. Alexander Palimattam from St. Patrick Catholic Church in Meridian, MS for their kindness and care for our “Pap”.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made in Mr. Diaz’s memory to the Mission of Hope, 7640 Moffet Road, Mobile, AL 36618 or to one’s favorite charity.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D’Iberville on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 11:00 am. Friends may visit from 10:00 am until Mass time. Interment will follow at D’Iberville Memorial Park.
