RoseMarie (Rosie) Hamernik DiMaggio

RoseMarie (Rosie) DiMaggio died peacefully in her home on August 12th, 2021, in Ocean Springs, MS with her son and daughter by her side. She was born on August 5, 1934 in Sheboygan, WI, the daughter of William and Sarah Alice (Turner) Hamernik. She was 87. Rosie graduated from North Division High School in Milwaukee, WI in 1952. She met her husband of 56 years, Paul John DiMaggio, while living in Milwaukee. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and her entire life was centered around family. She eagerly supported her husband and family during his career with NASA while he simultaneously attended law school, along with many other projects whether it was building houses, cooking elaborate meals or traveling the world for work. Always extremely adventurous, she enjoyed accompanying her husband to foreign assignments in Tehran, Iran and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia including the tumultuous time with the rebellion against the Shaw of Iran and the Gulf War with Iraq. For all that knew her, she also enjoyed playing a slot machine or two. She brought great joy to her family and they are heartbroken by her loss. Preceding her in death were her husband and love of her life Paul, her parents, siblings, William (Ruth) Hamernick, Bernadine (Christ) Bauer, Robert (Patricia) Hamernik, Marguerite (Dr. Robert) Deutsch, and an infant brother, James Carlton. Rosie is survived by her children: Dale (Rita) DiMaggio of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Dawn (Martin) Simoni of Dandridge, TN; her grandchildren: Kristina (Glenn Graham) DiMaggio, Dustin (Teaka) DiMaggio, Stephanie Simoni, Paul (Leslie) Simoni, Steven (Caitlin Garlow) Simoni; her great-grandchildren: Parker Simoni, Lucas Simoni and many nieces and nephews. A Family Only Visitation/Prayer Service will be held at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to their local church.
